CURBSPACE MANAGEMENT

From Chaotic Curbs to World-Class Systems: The Forward Progress 21 Elements Framework

Modern cities face an unprecedented challenge: managing increasingly complex curb space demands from delivery vehicles, rideshare, transit, emergency services, accessibility needs, and traditional parking—all while advancing equity, safety, and sustainability goals. Forward Progress developed the comprehensive 21 Elements Framework to guide communities through systematic transformation from traditional parking management to world-class curb space orchestration.

We Created the Curb Management Playbook

Our team supervised the development and publication of ITE's Curbside Management Practitioners Guide and authored foundational articles that define industry best practices. We don't just implement existing frameworks—we created the methodologies that transportation professionals worldwide use to approach complex curb management challenges.

The diagrammed process shown illustrates our efforts with Washington, D.C. to rewrite new best practices for allocating curb space in an urban environment.
